He&#8217;s also an actor, director, poet, short story writer, and co-owner of Willowbend Farm.<\/p>\n<p>His very thoughtful review begins:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe do not breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>So begins Kevin Vennemann\u2019s Close to Jedenew. The story of an event. A day in July, 1941. A moment between evening and night. Between \u201cwhat was\u201d and \u201cnothing remaining.\u201d A survivor\u2019s tale\u2014of movement from the \u201cwe\u201d to the \u201cI.\u201d A story of loss\u2014\u201cin the evening we sit, nine in number, at night we are six\u201d\u2014until no one but the narrator remains.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Living just outside the small farming community of Jedenew in eastern Poland, a Jewish family<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;[sits] behind the house in the midsummer evening sun on the narrow wooden dock that leads out into the pond behind the house, [they] sit and lie and swim in the sun and sit together reading and drink the first and last summer punch of the year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The first and last summer punch. The last evening.
