The聽Paul J. Burgett Intercultural Center聽celebrated its fifth anniversary on Friday, January 19. Named after the longtime University dean, vice president and senior advisor to the president, the center is a joint venture of the聽Office of the Dean of Students聽and the聽David T. Kearns Center聽and is located in Douglass Commons. It promotes cultural awareness and engagement, educates on issues of identity, culture, and diversity, and provides opportunities for collaboration. Nearly 2,000 people visited the center during the 2016-17 academic year. 鈥淲e are all members of the human race,鈥� Burgett said. 鈥淭his center celebrates that, and enables us to develop fluency and appreciation for one another.鈥�

Feldman Ballroom in Douglass Commons was transformed into a 16th century English court for the annual Boar鈥檚 Head Dinner, a University tradition since 1934. The banquet was inspired by a 16th-century Oxford University legend in which a student walking through the woods was attacked by a wild boar and saved by a fellow scholar who thrust a copy of Aristotle鈥檚 work down the boar鈥檚 throat.

The University鈥檚 fraternity and sorority communities hosted elementary school students from the Rochester City School District for the seventh annual Greek or Treat event last Friday. About 140 kids visited the River Campus to take part in Halloween-themed events ranging聽from a doughnut-on-a-string contest to a haunted house and obstacle course.

Thousands of alumni, community members, and friends of the University returned to Rochester the weekend of October 12-14 to celebrate the annual Meliora Weekend traditions of reunions, thought-provoking conversations, and family fun. Keynote speakers included Robin Roberts, Peggy Noonan, and Jeffrey Toobin, and headline entertainers included comedian Mike Birbiglia and jazz great Chick Corea.

Former Los Angeles Lakers NBA star Byron Scott meets with athletes from the women's basketball team for a 鈥渟hoot-around鈥� in the Palestra. Scott was in town to meet with Charlie Morris '68 to discuss a book the pair co-authored, Slam-Dunk Success: Leading from Every Position on Life's Court.
