Aaron Banks \u201918 and Julianne McAdams \u201917, both English majors, have won scholarships to the 2017 New York State Summer Writers Institute<\/a><\/strong>. They\u2019re two of 58 winners from more than 300 applicants at colleges and universities around the country and the globe.<\/p>\n

Part of the State University of New York, the New York State Writers Institute was founded in 1984 by Pulitzer Prize\u2013winning novelist William Kennedy, who\u2019s now its executive director. For its summer program, the institute tweaks its name and relocates from Albany to Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, for a month of\u00a0workshops in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.<\/p>\n

Among the institute\u2019s faculty members this summer are novelist Joanna Scott, the Roswell Smith Burrows Professor of English, and poet Garth Greenwell, a onetime Rochester undergraduate. They\u2019ll teach alongside colleagues such as Mary Gaitskill, Robert Pinsky, and Rick Moody.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
