The recently opened Sloan Performing Arts Center gives Rochester\u2019s arts community a new venue to showcase its talents.<\/h2>\n

After almost two years without in-person performing arts shows, the annual Keybank Rochester Fringe Festival<\/a> returns in 2021 with more than 425 events\u2014including 25 staged by the 做厙勛圖<\/a> community.<\/p>\n

The 12-day festival runs from Tuesday, September 14, through Saturday, September 25, and features in-person and online performances encompassing comedy, dance, music, theater, the visual arts, and film. The University is a founding partner of the festival, now in its tenth year.<\/p>\n

Coinciding with this year\u2019s Fringe festival is the opening of the University\u2019s new Sloan Performing Arts Center<\/a>, a new venue for the festival\u2019s events. \u201cFringe is the perfect time to introduce a new performing arts center to the public,\u201d says Missy Pfohl Smith, the director of the University\u2019s Institute for the Performing Arts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Located next to Todd Union and Strong Auditorium, the Sloan Center is part of the performing arts corridor on the River Campus. The corridor\u2019s buildings and programming support students\u2019 creative activities and productions while demonstrating the University\u2019s commitment to the arts and to engagement with the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s incredibly exciting and important that the University is investing in the performing arts in such a bold way,\u201d says Fringe Festival founding producer Erica Fee \u201999. \u201cThe performing arts teach us how to relate and they are wonderful forums for community conversations that can help us deal with difficult topics. I think the University\u2019s investment is going to have a ripple effect,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
