\n

Louis Constine receives Pediatric Oncology Award <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Louis Constine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Louis \u201cSandy\u201d Constine<\/strong><\/a>, the Philip Rubin Professor of Radiation Oncology, received the\u00a02026 Pediatric Oncology Award<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)<\/a>, the world’s leading cancer clinical research organization.\u00a0He was recognized for his pioneering work to improve the outlook of young cancer survivors, as well as advancing the treatment of childhood cancers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ASCO is a charitable, educational, and scientific organization with a membership of 50,000 oncologists from 170 countries. Constine is the third radiation oncologist in ASCO\u2019s history to receive this award, following two others who served as mentors throughout his career.<\/p>\n

Over the last half-century, Constine has devoted his life to understanding how cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy impact normal tissue in both adults and children.\u00a0At Wilmot Cancer Institute, he helped start the Long-Term Cancer Survivors Program within the Division of Pediatric Hematology\/Oncology in 1987 and served as director of\u00a0Wilmot\u2019s Judy DiMarzo Cancer Survivorship Program<\/a>\u00a0from its inception in 2013 through 2024.<\/p>\n

\n

James Druckman named American Academy of Political and Social Science fellow<\/strong><\/h3>\n

James Druckman<\/a>, the Martin Brewer Anderson Professor of Political Science, has been elected the American Academy of Political and Social Science\u2019s 2026 Harold Lasswell Fellow<\/a>.\u00a0 He is one of three to receive a 2026 fellowship from AAPSS.<\/p>\n

Druckman has made seminal contributions to research on political psychology and the public\u2019s understanding of political communication, the AAPSS said in the announcement.<\/p>\n

Each year, the APSS selects a small group of scholars and public intellectuals as fellows, in recognition of their contributions to social research and public policy. The 2026 fellows will be inducted at a ceremony in Washington, DC, in fall 2027.<\/p>\n

\n

Elaine Hill selected for prestigious leadership fellowship\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Elaine Hill<\/strong><\/a>, Dean\u2019s Professor in the Department of Environmental Medicine & Public Health Sciences, is the latest in the growing list of 做厙勛圖 Medicine faculty selected for the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) fellowship<\/a>. The program prepares women for senior leadership roles.<\/p>\n

Hill, who is also a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and of economics, focuses on clinical and policy-relevant research across the life course, with a particular emphasis on maternal and child health.<\/p>\n

\n

Pulmonary leaders recognized for outstanding research, mentorship<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Pulmonary researchers\u00a0M. Patricia Rivera<\/strong><\/a>, <\/strong>Augusto Litonjua<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0<\/strong>Gloria Pryhuber<\/strong><\/a> have been committed to helping people of all ages breathe easier for decades. Their dedication and outstanding contributions to pulmonary medicine and respiratory science were recently recognized by the American Thoracic Society (ATS)<\/a>, the world\u2019s leading medical society advancing global respiratory health.<\/p>\n

The trio received awards during the 2026 ATS International Conference in Orlando, Fla.<\/p>\n

Rivera, chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine and a\u00a0past president of the ATS<\/a>, received the\u00a0Elizabeth A. Rich, MD, Award<\/a>\u00a0for her transformative work in thoracic oncology and dedication to advancing women\u2019s careers in pulmonary medicine.<\/p>\n

Litonjua, director of pediatric pulmonology, received the\u00a0John M. Peters Award<\/a>\u00a0from the ATS Environmental, Occupational, and Public Health Assembly for his foundational research on the developmental origins of asthma and lung disease.<\/p>\n

Pryhuber, a professor of neonatology, received a\u00a0Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishment<\/a>\u00a0for her contributions to\u00a0building a comprehensive molecular map of the human lung<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

Emile Rossouw named American Board of Orthodontics president <\/strong><\/h3>\n

Emile Rossouw<\/strong><\/a>, a professor of dentistry, <\/span>will serve as chair of the American Board of Orthodontics\u2019 executive committee<\/a> and liaison to professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rossouw is chair and program director of Eastman Institute for Oral Health\u2019s Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.<\/p>\n

Al Uy receives honor from American Ornithological Society<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The American Ornithological Society<\/a>\u00a0(AOS) has awarded\u00a0J. Albert Uy<\/strong><\/a>, Dean\u2019s Professor of Biology and chair of the Department of Biology, the\u00a02026 Elliott Coues Award<\/a>. The AOS annually recognizes individuals and groups whose ornithological research, contributions to the science and practice of ornithology, and service to the AOS merit special distinction.<\/p>\n

Uy was honored for his research that explores the origin of species, combining genomic approaches with field data to uncover the molecular basis of reproductive isolation. In announcing the award, the AOS highlighted the research by Uy and his team on Darwin\u2019s finches of Gal\u00e1pagos, seedeaters, tanagers, and hummingbirds of the Neotropics, and honeyeaters and flycatchers of the Solomon Islands. Uy also partnered with indigenous communities to establish conservation areas, culminating this year in the declaration of the Yato Protected Area\u2014the largest protected forest in the Solomons.<\/p>\n
